Hernandez Criticizes Hochul for Using Government Funds to Boost Political Image Ahead of Midterms

For Immediate Release

ALBANY, NYJoseph Hernandez, Republican candidate for New York State Comptroller, today sharply criticized Governor Kathy Hochul following reports that her administration is leveraging state resources and executive authority to bolster her political standing ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.

A recent report has raised serious concerns about the governor prioritizing her reelection campaign over responsible governance, using taxpayer money to advertise a state-run website where Hochul is predominantly featured discussing her agenda.

“This is exactly what New Yorkers are sick of, politicians using the power of government to protect their own political future instead of serving the public,” said Hernandez. “At a time when families are struggling with rising energy costs, public safety concerns, and government waste, Governor Hochul appears more focused on managing headlines than managing the state.”

The reports highlight a pattern of politically motivated decision-making, where major policy rollouts and public actions are timed and structured to maximize political benefit rather than deliver meaningful, long-term solutions.

“Government resources should never be used as a campaign tool, it’s unethical,” Hernandez said. “New Yorkers deserve transparency, not political theater funded by their own dollars.”

As a candidate for State Comptroller, Hernandez emphasized his commitment to restoring accountability and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are never used for political gain.

“The Comptroller’s office must be an independent watchdog, and if Hochul is reelected, I will follow the money, expose misuse of state resources, and make sure every dollar is spent in the interest of the people, not politicians,” promised Hernandez.
