Hernandez Blasts Hochul’s $1.5 Billion NYC Bailout Off Mamdani’s Socialist Agenda

For Immediate Release

NEW YORK, NY — Following the announcement by Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani of a $1.5 billion state bailout to address New York City’s fiscal crisis, Republican nominee for New York State Comptroller Joseph Hernandez condemned the deal as reckless and politically motivated

Under the agreement, the state will commit $1 billion next year and $510 million the following year, including more than $500 million in recurring funding.

“Governor Hochul is handing Mayor Mamdani a $1.5 billion blank check,” Hernandez said. “With this plan, hardworking taxpayers across this state will be forced to subsidize City Hall’s socialist agenda. This is not a rescue plan. It is a bailout. Instead of cutting costs, exposing waste, and restructuring bloated programs, Albany is expanding recurring spending and locking in long-term obligations that taxpayers will be paying for years to come.”

The Governor claims a stronger New York City means a stronger New York, but she’s only saying yes to the Mayor’s excessive spending. Families and small businesses across New York are struggling under crushing taxes, rising costs, and an affordability crisis. Yet Albany continues to grow NYC’s government, lock in permanent spending, and shift today’s bills onto tomorrow’s taxpayers.

“There are no enforceable reforms attached to this money. No permanent spending controls. No structural changes. Just another billion-dollar transfer to protect political allies,” Hernandez continued. “This is exactly how one-party rule operates. When government overspends, they do not correct course. They demand more. New York already faces record Medicaid spending, mounting pension obligations, and serious structural deficits. Adding half a billion dollars in recurring commitments without reform only increases the likelihood of future tax hikes.”

“When is enough enough?” Hernandez added. “At some point, taxpayers deserve accountability instead of bailouts.”
